I can’t be an infotainment service.

More and more, I witness the negative effects of social media on many of my students. Anxiety, depression, fragmented attention.

As a species, will we evolve toward a more restrained, graceful approach to social media?

It took me over a decade to figure out that the less time I spend on the internet, the happier I am. Fast learner.

I walk between eras.

As a writer in a time of incessant chatter and distraction, I have to carve out quiet each day in order to think and focus on my work and not care what anyone else says. I believe that this is necessary for writers. Now more than ever.

For me, put simply, the thought of tweeting, posting pics, or liking on any sort of regular basis just messes me up, and so I keep on saying no to pressure to join that club. I try to be nice about it.

By next year at this time, I could be addicted to social media. Stay tuned for selfies of me shearing the backyard laurel hedge. Shirtless, drunk, bellowing. #omg #yardwrecker #sad
